Arts & Cultural program

The Arts & Cultural program
project is an exciting new element in the festival facilitated by Byron Bay based community organisation KulchaJam Inc.

Jammin up the rhythms and cultures of our region, Island Vibe performers from Kanaky New Caledonia, Aotearoa, Papua New Guinea will join other Pacific artists, the Goenpul and Nunukal traditional owners of Minjerribah and the Island community for a week of cultural and artistic exchange, including musical workshops and collaboration, and the swapping of traditional rhythms and stories.

A dedicated venue within the festival will tune festival goers into the rhythm of the islands as people from different Islander cultures come together to share their culture, music, stories and experiences past, present and future. Musical collaborations, speakers forums, workshops, dance, story, films and impromptu performances will form part of our growing arts and culture program.

Festival patrons will be able to experience a dynamic and culturally informative combination of workshops, talks and artistic performances which generate understanding and dialogue; providing opportunities for celebration while bringing an increased awareness of the aspirations of Indigenous people and the challenges and successes that the first peoples across our region have met in maintaining culture and connection to country.

The project will culminate with a collaborative performance bringing rhythms from across the Pacific together to celebrate with Minjerribah traditional musicians and dancers, and an opportunity for festival goers to participate in the festival closing ceremony.

KulchaJam Inc and Island Vibe Festival thank Arts Queensland for their support with the Arts & Culture program
