Batukanum Drumming Group is a vibrant ensemble that beautifully encapsulates the rhythmic essence of Pernambuco, a region in northern Brazil renowned for its diverse musical heritage. Specializing in the traditional Brazilian cultural music styles known as maracatu, ciranda and coco, Batukanum is under the skillful guidance of Telmo Anum Leao, a talented percussionist of Afro descent.

Hailing from Groote Eylandt as a Warnindhilyagwa woman, Emily Wurramara’s upbringing spans Meanjin (Brisbane) and the Northern Territory. Her music effortlessly bridges English and Anindilyakwa language, contributing to the contemporary Australian blues and roots movement, enriching communities with her empowering celebration of culture.

Jstar has been lauded for his back catalogue of over 100 dancefloor gold, official and unofficial, reggae and hip-hop remixes for the likes of Blackstreet, Gang Starr, Busta Rhymes, Major Lazer, Madness, DJ Vadim, Tack>Head, Mark Ronson, The Black Seeds and others.

Growing up in West London surrounded by reggae, rave, funk and hiphop, Jstar soon started DJing. This led writing and producing music that has been widely acclaimed by the likes of Mixmag, David Rodigan, Norman Jay, John Peel, Grandmaster Flash and The Clash’s DJ, Don Letts.

District Dub City are a 4 piece live Dub band from Meanjin/Brisbane - Featuring members from Kingfisha, One Dragon Two Dragon and Heavyweight Champion. With their signature Dub/Reggae sound, think King Tubby, Scientist and Mungos Hifi, DDC deliver a true live dub experience. Flute, melodica, vocals and drums are manipulated by Frank Booth on the dub controls, complimented by Drew Id on synth bass. DDC will be your new favourite dub band

ARIPUA

Originating from the lush of Cerrado waterfalls in central Brazil, the capital Brasilia, Thaís Carvalho, better known by her stage name Aripua, is a dynamic force in the music scene in Brisbane, channeling the diverse musical heritage of Brazil that spans from the heartland family background in Sergipe to all vibrant northeastern music and culture. Her sets are a celebration of Brazil's rich cultural tapestry, blending traditional and contemporary sounds.
